Anniversaries are always special occasions and GCC BDI’s 15th Anniversary is notable in so many respects!
GCC BDI is grateful for the vision of our founding fathers who had the wisdom and the foresight to see the need for an institute of directors in the Gulf back in 2007. The countries of the Gulf were at a very different stage of their economic development at that time and Codes of Corporate Governance were only in their very early stages. The first Code of Corporate Governance in the region was issued in Oman in 2002 followed by Saudi Arabia in 2006 and this was no doubt part of the impetus for the need to provide professional development for board directors and improve board effectiveness in the region.
GCC BDI has received huge support over the last 15 years – not only from its original Founders – Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Emirates NBD, Investcorp, McKinsey & Company, PwC, Allen & Overy and Heidrick & Struggles - but also in more recent years from key Strategic Partners such as FAB and NBB - and our Corporate Affiliates – ELM, Maaden, SABB, SAIB, STC, Vision Invest, and Tasnee. As a not-for-profit organisation, GCC BDI has received invaluable support from these companies throughout the last 15 years. They have nurtured the Institute in its early years, overseen and contributed to our growth and development, helped us to become independent and ensured our sustainability. There are many others, too numerous to mention, who have contributed their pro-bono support in different ways over the years and we thank them all.
GCC BDI has still a lot more to do and the next 15 years will see huge growth in the organisation as it expands its services fully into all six countries of the Gulf, partnering with key players in the market, ramping up our thought leadership, special forums and publications, and building a stronger membership community.
We are proud of our 15-year track record and we hope you are too! As a not-for-profit company, this is our Mission!
